FQA-Marble-Granite, How to classify natural stones?

FQAS-granite-marble-basalt-sandstone-limestone-quartzite-slate

1:

Q: How to classify natural stones?

A:  People usually classify natural stone into granite, marble, basalt, sandstone, limestone, quartzite and slate.

2:

Q: How to name the natural stone?

A: Natural stone is named according to its colour, texture, and origin, which reflects the decorative and natural properties of the material more intuitively and visually. Most stone names are related to their origin, such as the most well-known Carrara marble from the Carrara Tuscany of Italy, India black from India, etc.

3:

Q: What is granite?

A: Granite is a rock with a complete crystal structure. Fine granite has a delicate and uniform grain structure and compact structure. Mainly consisting of quartz (20%-40%), feldspars (40%-60%) and mica, accompanied by ranges from pink to light or dark grey.  For a long time, granite has been used widely as a building and decorative material.

4:

Q: What is marble?

A: Marble is a metamorphic rock composed of recrystallized carbonate minerals, most commonly calcite or dolomite. Marble is typically a metamorphic rock used widely as a building and decorative material. You’ll have seen it as the material of choice in many fancy restaurants, hotels, monuments, and even home settings.

5:

Q: What is limestone?

A: Limestone is called limestone and carbonate rock with calcite as the main component. Sometimes it contains dolomite, clay minerals and detrital minerals, such as ash, grey, yellow, light red, and brown-red. The hardness is generally not large, and the reaction with dilute hydrochloric acid is severe.

6:

A: What is basalt?

Q: Basalt is a dark volcanic rock formed by melting rocks. Basalt can be found in every tectonic place. The central quarrying regions are Fujian, the island of Hainan in China, and the South East of Hanoi in Vietnam.

7:

A: What is sandstone?

Q: Sandstone is a sedimentary rock made of cemented sand. Most sandstones are mainly composed of quartz and feldspar. India quarries offer a fantastic variety of sandstones, the most well-known is the Modak sandstone in India. South Africa is also rich in some beautiful sandstone. The most popular sandstone in the world is Ayers Rock in Australia.

8:

A: What is Quartzite?

Q: The exotic and colourful quartzite from Sao Tome, Brazil, is highly sought after by architects and stone fans. These stunning quartzites increasingly appear in people’s vision in luxury houses, Super-five-star hotels and manors.

9:

A: What is slate?

Q: Slate is a fine-grained rock formed by mud and stone sediment compression. Slate, a natural material, is found beneath the earth’s surface of Jianxi and Hebei provinces, China. The lifespan of the slate is virtually endless.

10:

Q: What is the Artificial Stone?

A: Artificial stone is made of a non-natural mixture, such as resin, cement, glass beads, aluminium stone powder, etc., plus gravel binder. Generally, unsaturated polyester resin is mixed with fillers and pigments, and an initiator is added, which is produced through a particular processing procedure.

11:

Q: What are the characteristics of granite?

Granite generally has granular particles, a hard texture, good strength, and is not easy to break. The low water absorption and a large proportion, the colour pattern is generally uniform and regular, low water absorption, the light colour is long-lasting, and the pattern distribution is uniform.

12:

Q: What are the characteristics of marble?

Reticulated granules, soft texture, poor strength, easy to break, generally bondable, absorbent, easy to process, easy to fade, complicated pattern, endless change

13:

Q: What can granite be used for?

A: Due to its high density, acid resistance, low absorption rate, and scratch resistance, granite can be used for many applications, including floors, fireplaces, furniture, and kitchen countertops. As an elegant and prestigious material, granite is ideal for various interior projects. Granite is suitable for bridges, paving and outdoor building decoration. It withstands long-term wind, rain and sun exposure. Granite is a good material for the outside because it does not contain carbonate, has low water absorption, and is resistant to weathering and acid rain.

14:

A: What are natural stone finishes to choose from?

Q: There are many finishes and options available: Polished; Flamed; Bush hammered; Sawn; grooved/saw pulled; chiselled; Pineapple picked; split; mushroom face; water blast; antique face; adze; Sand-blasted;3D Bamboo; Tumbled; Lightly Tumbled; Antique Tumbled; Brushed

Natural stone finishes can enhance the appearance of your stone and determine its performance.

15:

A: How to care for and clean your stone?

Q: The first and most crucial step is to make sure you seal granite & marble surfaces using a good-grade, silicone-based, impregnating sealer. A good coat of sealer will help prevent staining from liquids spilt on the surface. People use standard sealers that need to be applied every 6~12 months. Some strong sealers from Japan last for 4-5 years. Also, It depends upon usage. It would help if you used good stone soap or polish for ongoing maintenance. Do not use acidic, abrasive cleaners or harsh ammonia-based cleaners.

16:

A: What is the difference between artificial stone and natural stone?

Q: All natural stone is a product of nature and is subject to variations. Characteristics such as veining and mineral deposits will affect each piece. All Natural stone is unique. Engineered stone is artificial. People manufacture it in factories, made of crushed natural rock or stone powers, and then bound together by acrylic or polyester resins. Artificial stone lacks the naturalness of natural stone. Although artificial stone can produce various patterns, it is still not as rich and natural as natural stone.

17:

Q: What is the difference between quartz and quartzite?

A:  Quartz stone is an artificial stone, and quartzite is a natural mineral stone. It was a traditional handcraft material. It was mainly a sophisticated material for luxury constructions. the stone being a natural material, all professionals know that there is not a single piece of stone equal to another.

Quartz stone is the abbreviation of the artificial stone manufacturer for its products. Because the content of quartz, the main component of artificial stone, is more than 93%, it is called quartz stone. Quartzite is a natural mineral sedimentary rock composed of quartz sandstone or siliceous rock. Metamorphic rock is formed by regional metamorphism or thermal metamorphism.

18:

A: How to make the stone seams minimized?

Q: Granite & Marble is a stones, and because of this, seams cannot be “melted” together. There will have to be seams in a typical granite & Marble project, but a quality fabricator and installer will minimize these seams. The location and quantity of seams depend on the project design and slab sizes. It helps to have some idea of typical slab sizes during the design stages of the projects. Seams usually are filled with a colour-matched polyester adhesive to blend as close as possible. If seams are cut and adequately filled, they will not stand out and be eye-sore.

19:

Q: What are the advantages of natural stone?

A: The natural stone texture is exclusive and natural. The main advantage lies in its natural, low-carbon and environmental protection; mining can be done without pollution and other processes.
